The forró is a popular dance from the Northeast. This dance is accompanied by music, which has the same name of the dance. The forró music theme has linked to cultural and everyday aspects of the Northeast region of Brazil. The forró music is accompanied by the following musical instruments: triangle, accordion and bass drum.

The forró is a style of dance and musical genre influenced by African and European, the result of musical rhythms such as baião, xote and xaxado. Given the vagueness of the term is usually associated with the name as a generalization of various musical rhythms of the Northeast, as baião the quadrilha, xaxado, who have Dutch influences and xote, which has Portuguese influence. They are played traditionally by trios, composed of a accordion player (accordion player that forró is traditionally the accordion oito baixos), an zabumbeiro and a triangle player.

Besides the traditional forró, called pé-de-serra, there are other variations, such as electronic forró, stylized shed and post-modernized forró emerged in the early 90s that uses electronic elements in their execution, such as battery, keyboard, bass and electric guitar; and the college forró, emerged in São Paulo at the end of the 90s, which is a kind of revival of traditional forró, which eventually adds bass and guitar to traditional instruments and the main feature of the three basic steps, one of them being " 2 there 2 here, "came the polka (folk dance originating from the Czech Republic, Bohemia region).

Known and practiced in Brazil, forró is especially popular in the Brazilian cities of Caruaru, Campina Grande, Mossoro and Juazeiro, that host the biggest feast of St. John the country. Already in the capital Aracaju, Fortaleza, João Pessoa, Natal, Maceio, Recife, Teresina and Salvador, are traditional festivals and presentations of forró bands in private events that attract especially young people.
